Items for Older Babies: Although it’s nice to get more expensive items (like the high chair) at the baby shower, there are a lot of items your baby won’t need right away. Your baby probably won’t show any interest in toys until they’re at least two months old. They won’t start solid food until they’re 4-6 months old, and the crawling (and thus, babyproofing) doesn’t start until 7-10 months. If you want to get them at your baby shower, go for it. If you’re running out of time and energy to research this little later gear, these are all fine to postpone.
Diaper Stackers - This is another baby item that many people buy because it will fit into the theme of their nursery. At first, it seems like a good idea to put your diapers in a decorative bag that is hooked onto your changing table. But after a while, the diapers end up stacked on the changing table for easier access. Also, some diaper stackers can be very expensive (up to $100). It’s just not worth spending that much money on something that will become useless or at best is unnecessary.
How much does it weigh? The lighter the stroller, the easier it is to push, travel with, pack in the car, carry up stairs, and so forth, There are now super-lightweight ones (8 to 10 pounds), but they're generally umbrella strollers for older babies. A good weight for a newborn stroller is more like 11 to 16 pounds. Once you get to the heavy-duty prams, which are no lie often more than 40 pounds, forget about it. A note: Some new parents worry that if a stroller feels lightweight, it's shoddily made. Not necessarily true; weight does not equal quality.
