Breast Pump - A good breast pump is essential if you’re a working mother and want your baby to have the benefits of breast milk throughout the day. Moreover and this may be the biggest perk you can pump before bed at night and your husband can wake up to feed the baby while you get your much-deserved sleep. You can purchase expensive electric pumps, but I recommend a simple manual one that is easily portable, such as the Avent models. It’s also a relief to have one on-hand if your body thinks you need to nurse when you’re somewhere without your baby, like at work.
Often Essential for Newborns: Baby Specific First Aid Kit - Your adult first aid kit won’t do the job. Babies need different thermometers, over-the-counter medications, and nail clippers than adults. About those nail clippers: Babies have no control of their hands, so they scratch everything, including themselves. Clipped nails clipped prevent these minor injuries.
Burp Cloths - Although you do need something to protect your shoulder from spit-up, it doesn’t have to be official burp cloths, it could be any kind of cloth. Burp cloths are a nice size and shape for your shoulder. Baby Washcloths - You may be confused: how are baby washcloths different from adult washcloths? They’re smaller, thinner, and cheaper. It’s kind of like having reusable paper towels (they help with mess control as well as bathing).
"Jogging strollers" are sporty three-wheelers you can run with, though now there are some three-wheel strollers that are not for jogging, just for show. Finally, an "umbrella stroller" is a small, lightweight stroller that's more or less a fabric sling on a frame, suitable for a baby 6 months or older. It's the stroller you'll pooh-pooh initially, but will love by the time you've got a toddler and are fed up with lifting, folding, and pushing anything larger.
