Wipe Warmers - As if having your pants pulled down 10 times a day for all the world to see isn’t bad enough, babies also have to go through the shock of getting their behinds cleaned up with wet, cold wipes. My son does pretty good with diaper changes until that cold wipe hits his skin. An obvious solution to this problem would be to get a wipe warmer that stores wipes at a nice, cozy temperature of about 99 degrees. The problem with such products is that they are recalled again and again due to fire hazards. I’m not sure about you, but I would rather continue to use a cold wipe on my son than put a fire hazard in his room. Tip: You can achieve the same effect as a wipe warmer by using a cloth and warm water. It’s better for the environment too!
Willow Wearable Breast Pump - Though breast pumps are crucial for many new mothers, the gadgets seemed to be stuck in a time warp for several decades. No longer—several entrepreneurs launched new designs in the past year alone. One of the most promising is Willow, which liberates nursing mothers from the cumbersome external tubes, cords, and dangling bottles attached to most breast pumps. Instead, Willow built the pump apparatus and bag for collecting milk into a cup-shaped device that fits inside a bra, which allows women to move freely while pumping. A corresponding iOS app lets them monitor how much milk they’re expressing and track other metrics, such as the length and output of past pumping sessions.
Could Be Handy for Newborns: Colorful Play Mat - These are great for entertaining your baby and teaching them motor skills. They can lie on their back and swat at the toys. Then when they get strong enough to hold up their heads, playmats are great for tummy time, too. (Tummy time is when you lay baby tummy-side down to help them strengthen new muscles.)
Can it carry a car seat? Travel systems became so popular that now many strollers accommodate car seats, even from different manufacturers. This is nice, because it's great to take a sleeping infant out of the car and snap her right into the stroller. If you know you want a car seat from a certain manufacturer, it's worth looking at their travel systems. They might price the strollercar seat combo cheaper than the sum of the separate pieces. Another option is the car seat frame. Baby Trend's Snap-N-Go and Kolcraft's car seat frame are ways to put your car seat on wheels, making a lightweight stroller that accommodates a newborn. Get a canopy for your car seat and a warm boot to sit your baby in if it's cold, and you're set.
